About PieceRates
The compliance-first marketplace for construction crews.
PieceRates connects general contractors, crews and PEOs. GCs hire crews by the job and pay by the piece. Crews find steady work. PEOs employ the crew as employer of record and run payroll. Compliance is verified before the work starts and tracked while it runs.
Who PieceRates is for
Three sides of one job
Each side gets its own workspace. The job, the proposals, the compliance record and the messages live in one place.
General contractors
Post jobs free and unlimited, compare proposals, message and meet bidders, and award the work to a verified crew. Compliance documents are on file before you hire.
Learn moreCrews
Build a profile, browse every job free, bid with Nails on the jobs you want, and get paid W-2 through a PEO. Your reviews follow you to the next job.
Learn morePEOs
Bid to be the employer of record on a job, onboard the crew, and track payroll and certificates in one place. A finder fee applies only once payroll has been running, and it is disclosed up front.
Learn moreHow the money works
We are not in the chain between a GC and a crew.
The GC pays the PEO. The PEO, as employer of record, pays the crew. PieceRates is not in that chain: no labor dollar ever sits in a PieceRates account, which is what keeps every GC on the platform compliant without PieceRates becoming a payroll company.
What we charge for
- GCs post jobs free and unlimited, and hire free. A GC pays only to promote a job: feature it, advertise it, or make it private.
- Crews and PEOs bid with Nails, prepaid bid credits. Every job shows its bid cost before you bid, an invited bid is free, and there are many ways to earn Nails free.
- Featured and promoted placements for crews, PEOs and jobs. Always labeled as such.
- PEO finder fees: a percentage of the GC's project value, paid by the PEO about 60 days into payroll, disclosed at the start of the project.
What we never do
Three lines we do not cross
Never
Touch labor money
No wage or crew payout ever passes through a PieceRates account. We are not a payroll provider and not a money transmitter.
Never
Take a cut of the work
Our fees pay for platform access and visibility. The rate a GC and a crew agree on is theirs, in full.
Never
Hide a paid placement
Featured and promoted listings are labeled everywhere they appear, and a paid placement never changes a rating.
What we commit to
Compliance you can show, not just claim
PieceRates surfaces and tracks compliance. The PEO is the employer of record.
Verification before hiring
GCs verify their business with a certificate of insurance and proof of workers' comp; a license speeds review. Crews and PEOs verify too, and every status is shown as a labeled badge, never a color alone.
An audit trail
Every compliance event, from a document upload to an approval, is logged, so both sides can show what was in place and when.
W-2 through the PEO
Crew workers are employed and paid W-2 by the PEO, with workers' comp and certified payroll. An established crew company that clears the compliance gate can work under its own coverage.
Rules that follow the state
Classification and coverage rules differ by state. PieceRates surfaces and tracks them; the PEO stays the employer of record, and nothing here is legal advice.
